Feeling peckish? When you’re following the Slimming World plan, it’s always wise to have some Syn free snacks on hand to help you to resist the urge to raid the biscuit tin.
The good news is that there are plenty of options to choose from. I’ve been following the plan for a while now, and I’ve discovered some great snacks!
Whether you’ve got a sweet tooth that needs to be satisfied, or you prefer a savoury bite with your mid-morning cup of tea, there’s no reason why you can’t have a bit of what you fancy without ruining your weight loss plans.
Of course, it’s worth noting that choosing Speed Foods is always a good idea if you want to maximise your chances of success. Occasionally though, you might want to shake things up a little and add some variety.
That’s totally okay too, as it’s important that your current lifestyle is sustainable and you don’t feel too restricted.
Please note that you should always refer to the official Slimming World website or app and check the Syn values of any snacks you’re planning to have, so you can be sure the Syn values are entirely accurate and up to date.
Here’s a selection of my favourite Syn free snacks that you might want to try this week…
1. Creamy Garlic Mushrooms
You might think that creamy garlic mushrooms are an indulgence, but when you make the recipe with quark instead of cream, they can be Syn free.
Mushrooms are rich in vitamin B too, and they contribute towards your recommended 5-a-day.
2. Marmite Mac & Cheese Bites
You’ll love them or you’ll hate them, but these Marmite mac and cheese bites are one of my all-time favourite snacks! They’re great for taster nights too, and take hardly any time at all to prepare.
Of course, you’ll have to use your Healthy Extra cheese allowance to ensure that these are completely Syn free.
3. Seafood Sticks
Seafood sticks, or crab stick as they’re sometimes known, are available in most supermarkets are a great Syn free snack.
4. Cottage Cheese
Fat-free cottage cheese can be made a little more exciting by adding your favourite herbs and spices to the mix.
I personally like to add a generous sprinkle of dried chilli flakes, for a spicy kick!
5. Onion Bhajis
You might associate onion bhajis with a full Indian banquet, but they can be a great Syn free snack too. Try these next time you’re in the mood for something a little out of the ordinary!
5. Fresh Veggie Crudites With Homemade Tzatiki
You can use any vegetables that you might have in your fridge to make a colourful and light veggie platter. Think cherry tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, pepper, radishes, cauliflower, broccoli. and anything else that needs using up.
To jazz things up a little, make your own Syn free tzatiki. Just use some fat-free natural yoghurt, and add chopped garlic, mint, and cucumber. It’s super simple, and it always reminds me of sunny holidays in Greece!
6. Fresh Fruit Salad
A fresh fruit salad is refreshing and delicious, and you can use any fruit that might take your fancy.
Add a little squeeze of lemon juice to help stop any browning if you won’t be eating it straightaway.
7. Indian Veggie Soup
My Indian vegetable soup is packed full of speedy vegetables and is ideal to take to work in a flask, particularly in the chilly winter months.
8. Pasta Salad
If you’re going to be in the house, having a bowl of pasta salad that you can tuck into now and again can be a great idea. You can make it as simple or elaborate as you like, and it’s also a good way to use up anything that might be approaching it’s use-by date.
You can add tomatoes, tinned sweetcorn, spices and seasoning, diced peppers, or chunks of lean cooked meat. The possibilities are endless!
Do remember here that whilst pasta is a free food on the Slimming World plan, it’s always sensible to exercise a little bit of common sense. You can absolutely enjoy pasta salad as an occasional snack, but if you’re tucking into it all day long just because it’s ‘free’, you might find that you struggle to lose weight!
9. Eggs
Eggs are a wonderful snack as they’re quick and nutritious, and there are plenty of different ways to enjoy them.
I personally like a scrambled egg with some freshly ground black pepper and a sprinkle of dried chilli flakes.
You could try them boiled, poached, or dry-fried instead, if you prefer.
10. Chunks Of Lean Meat
Chunks of lean meat such as chicken and beef are really filling, and they’re packed full of protein. If you’re on the go, you can find plenty of single serving pre packed options in the supermarket.
Make sure you check though that they are indeed Syn free. Some options with flavourings or coatings may have a Syn value that you’ll need to count to protect your weight loss.
11. Slimming World Chips
Are you even on Slimming World if you aren’t regularly tucking into Syn free chips?!
You can make them in the oven or Actifry, and you can mix things up a little bit by experimenting with different herbs, spices, and seasonings.
My personal favourite choice is the Spicentice Gourmet Chip Seasoning. Remember to use discount code SLIMMINGV20 at the checkout to save 20% on your order!
12. Tinned Tuna
A tin of tuna is a really convenient snack, especially if you haven’t had time to visit the supermarket and you need to use what you have in your cupboards!
I like to add a little plain fat-free natural yoghurt to mine as a substitute to mayonnaise, and some sweetcorn and diced red onion.
13. Rice Salad
Rice salad is deliciously summery, and it’s another option where no rules really apply. Just chuck in your favourite vegetables and lean meats.
Be mindful here that you need to be careful with reheating rice, as it can be a breeding ground for food poisoning if it’s not stored correctly. Read this guide from the NHS about safely reheating rice.
14. Couscous Salad
Couscous is a delicious Syn free snack, and again, you can get experimental to really make it your own.
A tasty option here is to added some of your favourite roasted vegetables, such as onion, peppers, tomatoes, and courgette.
15. Pickled Vegetables
The beauty of pickled veggies is that they last absolutely ages, so you can have them on standby in the fridge for when the munchies strike!
Think pickled onions, gherkins, beetroot, and jalapeños, to name just a few.
16. Frozen Yoghurt
There are lots of Syn free yoghurts available in the supermarkets for you to choose from, and you probably already have your favourites.
Did you know though that you can simply stick them in the freezer though and turn them into a frozen treat? The result is similar to an ice cream, but without any of the guilt.
If you’d like to experiment with flavours, check out the range of sauces from The Skinny Food Co.
17. Roasted Chickpeas
Roasted chickpeas are a popular snack amongst Slimming World followers.
Simply drain a can of chickpeas, dry roast in the oven for around 30 minutes on 180, and then toss them with low calorie cooking spray and your favourite spice mix, and return to the oven for a further 15 minutes.
They’re great on their own, but you can also use them as a salad topper for an extra bit of bite.
18. Frozen Grapes
If you haven’t tried these yet, you need to! Just pop your grapes in a freezer bag and dip into them whenever you have an urge for something sweet.
19. Edamame Beans
These have become really popular in recent years, and you can find them in the vegetable aisle in most supermarkets.
Serve them with a soy dipping sauce for Asian inspired, Syn free snacks.
20. Crispy ‘Seaweed’ Kale
I always serve up this dish when I make a Chinese takeaway banquet, and it’s every bit as good as the crispy seaweed that you order from your local Chinese restaurants!
As it’s so simple to make, it’s a great snack option too.
21. Omelette
When it comes to Syn free snacks, you have tons of options when it comes to omelettes. Add your favourite vegetables or chunks of meat, and you’ve got a quick and easy bite to eat that’s sure to leave you feeling satisfied.
Believe it or not, sweet omelettes are also really popular at the moment. If you want to go down this route, add a little sweetener to your eggs, and a flavouring such as cinnamon or nutmeg. Of course, you can also add fruits such as strawberries and banana.
22. Cheese & Apple
Cheese and apple is one of my all-time favourite snacks. It’s so simple, but it always feels like a real treat.
If you’re happy to use your Healthy Extra cheese, this will be Syn free.
23. Bottom Of The Fridge Soup
Okay, so this one might not sound too appealing, but hear me out!
Bottom Of The Fridge Soup is exactly what it sounds like – a soup made using up whatever leftovers you might have that need to be used up. With some stock and a little imagination, you can create all kinds of delicious warming dishes.
Taking this approach will help you to cut down on waste, and it’s also a great way to ensure that you’re getting your 5-a-day.
24. Frozen Banana
If you love banana ice cream, you need to try this! Just slice up a banana, pop it in a freezer bag, and leave for a while.
25. Baked Beans
Baked beans are a really convenient option when it comes to Syn free snacks on Slimming World. Of course if you have your Healthy Extra bread allowance, you could have beans on toast.
Look out for the Heinz Snap Pots next time you’re in the supermarket. They’re the ideal size when you want something that’s easy to grab, and they only take a minute to heat up in the microwave.
26. Mushy Peas
These might not be to everyone’s taste, but some people swear by them!
Peas are also a decent source of protein and vitamins.
27. Quark
Quark is something else that divides opinion amongst followers of Slimming World, but I think it’s a fantastic option to have in the fridge. You can use it in tons of different recipes to create a creamy sauce, and it makes for a great snack.
Serve it plain, or add chopped up fruits or a low Syn fruit syrup.
For more inspiration, check out my guide to how to use quark on Slimming World.
28. Potato Salad
Potato salad is usually loaded with creamy mayonnaise, meaning that it’s off the agenda for many people when they’re trying to lose a few pounds.
You can make it Syn free though by substituting the mayo for quark. Add some seasoning and some chopped spring onions to make it extra tasty.
29. Frozen Berries
You can easily pick up bags of frozen berries in the supermarket, and they’re a good choice if you sometimes struggle to use up fresh produce before it’s past its best.
Eat them on their own as a saintly replacement for sweets, or add natural yogurt, forage fraise, or quark.
You can use them in lots of other Slimming World friendly meals too, such as overnight oats and fruity pancakes. Of course, you’ll need to make sure that you check the Syns of the other ingredients!

There really is no shortage of options when it comes to Syn free snacks, and these options here are just the tip of the iceberg. If you have a favourite that you’d recommend, please do leave a comment and let us know about it!
