Rated 5 out of 5 by Rcp67 from For my pastor I have used this yarn before to make a throw for my bestie. She loved it! Now I'm making my pastor a sweater 🙌🏾

Rated 2 out of 5 by Melisa K from Inconsistent thickness I bought 3 skiens of each of the white and denim. The thickness is very inconsistent, which affected the tension on my project. I also had issues with being able to find starting end for center pull, ended up with a quarter of the ball coming out as yarn barf. I will definitely not be wasting my money on this yarn again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by kaijuAim from So many KNOTS It’s decent yarn , soft and squishy has a weird waxy feel . Making a blanket and there’s just too many knots and it’s very annoying

Rated 3 out of 5 by Anonymous from The yarn to make beautiful things I bought a white and pink skein. The white worked perfectly but the pink had to be unraveled and re wound. I made a beautiful pink and white baby afghan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by KIETSA from AFGHANS FOR ALL! I like making afghans with Pound of Love because it's softer than most. I use two strands so it's a substantial blanket. I've been making them for my buyers and sellers (I sell real estate), and they're always so surprised and pleased. Now and then one of the skeins has way too many knots, which I found very frustrating and disappointing, but overall, it beats Red Heart.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Jenna266 from Superficially nice If you are a center pull crocheter and enjoy detangling hundreds of yards of yarn buy this. Too much money for having to put hours into detangling it so I can work on my project.

FAQs

Is acrylic yarn the same as worsted? ›

That's 100% acrylic yarn, marked as worsted weight, medium weight, or number 4. (Outside North America, it may also be called 10 ply or aran weight.) That makes it sound pretty locked down, and that any yarn you choose that fits those requirements will be exactly the same.

How do you soften pound of love yarn? ›

How to Soften Yarn in a Skein:
  1. Remove the labels from your yarn.
  2. Fluff up the skein with your fingers.
  3. Pop it in a lingerie bag (or pillowcase) and wash it in cold water and fabric softener.
  4. Place the bag in the dryer with a dryer sheet.

How soft is Lion brand Pound of Love? ›

I luv these Pounds of Love. They're always soft and fairly thick worsted weight yarns. Good for afghans, sweaters, scarves, hats, or anything else with those properties. I buy the white just to have instantly available for crochet projects.

What weight of yarn is pound of love? ›

Lion Brand Pound of Love is a fabulous baby yarn in a whopping 448g ball! One ball will make a baby blanket, and this yarn comes in the most delicate baby colours, as well as being machine washable.

What is acrylic yarn best for? ›

Acrylic yarn will last a long time and is a great choice for items that are intended to be passed down from one person to another. DK weight acrylic yarn is especially warm and durable, which is why it's often recommended for garments like sweaters, hats, afghans, and more.

What is a good substitute for acrylic yarn? ›

The truth is: if a fibre is long enough to spin- you can make yarn out of it- some people even look at spinning dog/animal or human hair. But without delving into the macabre, here are some more alternatives: Raffia, corn silk, silk, hemp, recycled t-shirts, cotton make up just a few alternatives.

Can you put acrylic yarn in the dryer? ›

Acrylic yarn is a synthetic fiber made from plastic, specifically polymers of acrylic acid. This type of yarn is popular among knitters because it is often lightweight, soft, and easy to care for. Unlike most other yarns, acrylic is usually fine to put in a washer and dryer.

Does washing acrylic yarn make it softer? ›

What is this? Fortunately, there are several methods you can use to “pre-soften” your acrylic yarn so that it's easier on your hands and more enjoyable to work with right from the beginning. One way to soften acrylic yarn is to wash it in warm water with a gentle detergent.

Does acrylic yarn shrink? ›

Acrylic fibres dry very quickly, and are flexible. They can be blended with other fabric fibres, depending on the intended use of the garment, and they're also very versatile. Does acrylic shrink? The good news is that, unlike wool, acrylic maintains its shape and will not shrink.

Is pound of love good for blankets? ›

This easy-care yarn comes in a wide range of hues, from traditional baby colors to classics. Just one ball is enough to stitch your love into blankets, wraps, and garments that are as adorable as they are practical.

How to wash lion brand pound of love? ›

This classic, easy-care yarn comes in traditional baby colors, making it perfect for stitching your love into gifts from blankets (one ball is enough to make a hooded blanket that's as adorable as it is practical) to garments. Machine wash. Initial water temperature should not exceed 40C or 105F.

Is Pound of Love yarn washable? ›

Like many budget acrylic yarns, Pound of Love is machine washable. The label cautions that the initial water temperature should not be too hot (max recommended is 40C).

Which is heavier DK or worsted weight yarn? ›

No. Worsted is thicker than DK. Worsted is sometimes known as 10 ply yarn, while DK is referred to as 8 ply. These terms aren't totally accurate (the number of plies a yarn contains varies according to the spinner - something that can get quite technical).

How heavy is worsted yarn? ›

Medium Weight - Worsted and Aran

4 Weight yarn, more commonly known as worsted weight, is the workhorse yarn of the knitting and crochet world, for good reason. This yarn weight is very popular because it can be used for just about anything, from garments to accessories to home décor.

What is equivalent to worsted yarn? ›

Historically, the UK worsted weight yarn equivalent has been aran. Some serious yarn enthusiasts will tell you that these terms aren't precisely interchangeable. That's because traditionally, worsted and aran yarns were spun differently. As a result, true aran yarn has more loft and a bouncier feel than worsted.

What can I use instead of worsted weight yarn? ›

'Can I substitute DK yarn for worsted? ' You can! But it's worth bearing in mind that DK is a slightly thinner yarn to worsted, so the best way to substitute is by going up a needle or hook size so that the tension will be the same.

What is another name for worsted yarn? ›

Worsted cloth, archaically also known as stuff, is lightweight and has a coarse texture. The weave is usually twill or plain. Twilled fabrics such as whipcord, gabardine and serge are often made from worsted yarn.

What is the difference between acrylic and natural yarn? ›

Acrylic is more affordable and easier to care for, but it is not breathable and tends to pill. On the other hand, sweaters made out of real, quality wool are breathable yet warm and don't pill, but they can be quite expensive and require special care.
